Dr Dharmaraj Karthikesan
Dr Dharmaraj Karthikesan is a consultant interventional cardiologist at Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah, Alor Setar, Malaysia. He specialises in complex coronary intervention and is keenly interested in conducting streamlined randomised clinical trials. He completed his interventional cardiology training in Malaysia and underwent a year of training at the Central Chest Institute of Thailand. He has also obtained an MSc in Clinical trials at the University of Oxford with a prestigious European Society of Cardiology (ESC) grant.
Dr Dharmaraj is a member of many leading national and international professional committees, including the National Heart Association of Malaysia (NHAM), European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. He actively participates in clinical trials and has authored several publications in reputed journals. He has delivered numerous lectures and presentations at both national and international conferences and seminars. He has won awards in both national and international meetings, including the American Society of Cardiology Conference, TCTAP cardiovascular summit and the Endovascular Cardiac Complication Conference.
Dr Dharmaraj's research focuses on complex coronary intervention and to improve current techniques and practices. His aim lies in conducting streamlined trials embedded into routine clinical care, allowing recruitment of patients without additional burden to busy clinicians. He is currently designing a clinical trial to address gaps in evidence within the complex coronary space.
